I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and a Brimmer Distinguished Scholar at the University of Washington, an Affiliated Professor at J-PAL, a Research Associate at NBER, and a Research Fellow at IZA. My research focuses on understanding the choices people in developing countries make about health, education, employment, and savings, using randomized field experiments. I have done research in Egypt, Ghana, India, Malawi, and Uganda, as well as in the United States.
I received my Ph.D. in Economics in 2015 from the University of Michigan, where I was also an Economic Demography Trainee at Michigan’s Population Studies Center. Prior to joining the University of Washington, I was an Associate Professor of Applied Economics and a McKnight Land-Grant Professor at the University of Minnesota.
